Radiation Health & Safety Competency Assessment




UCONN School of Dental Medicine has developed a Radiation Health & Safety Competency Assessment Self Study Course, Materials and Exam. This meets the 2023 legislation, which allows a Dental Assistant in Connecticut to take dental x-rays if they pass either the national exam given by the Dental Assistant National Board’s (DANB) Radiation Health & Safety Examination or the radiation health and safety competency assessment administered by a dental education program in Connecticut that is accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Registration Process

  1. Registration for the Radiation Health and Safety Competency Assessment includes self-study material and self-assessment quizzes. So no need to obtain or pay for additional study materials.
  2. Registrants have 30 days from registration to take the exam.
  3. Registrants must pick a test date. The test will proctored virtually and an attestation form required.
  4. Various email reminders will be sent prior to the test date.
  5. Access to the exam will be provided 2 days prior to the test time.
  6. There are 50 questions to be completed in 60 minutes. Passing is 65%.
  7. UCONN School of Dental Medicine will send a letter of completion to the registrant.
