This course will provide an overview on how to manage acute dental pain. Indications for narcotic prescribing will be discussed. Non-opioid alternatives will be reviewed. Different treatment modalities will be presented. After completing this course, attendees will be able to:

Understand the role of pre-emptive analgesia in controlling dental pain

Know when and how to prescribe opioid to control acute dental pain

Know the risks and side effects of short- and long-term opioid use.
